783 Hudson Broken Wire
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, October 7, 2011 1:57 PM

Does anyone know where the blue wire from the locomtive's socket is connected inside the locomotive?  Mine is broken off, and I can't tell where it was.

It most likely goes directly to the pickup connection on the E-Unit, typically the lights get the track power for conventional running.

Those 2 sockets operate the E-unit so the blue wire has to connect to it. Sorry I'm a bit lazy about opening my engine unless you really need me too. S.J.

I got it.  Apparently, it was soldered to the field lug.  At first, I thought it was connected to the right brush,  but that caused the chuff to be faster in one direction than another.  The chuff is even with the wire connected to the field lug on the brushplate.

Yep that's where it goes. I guess I read your request wrong, thought you needed to know where it went FROM the lug.

Jim,

It's curious that the wire broke off from the field lug.  Did that just happen from age, or had you been working on the engine?

Rich,

I noticed that it was broken while attempting to join the socket with the plug from the tender.  I just got this 783, and it was used.  It is hard to say what has happened to it previously during it's 27 years.
