American Flyer project layouts in CTT
Posted by Benjamin Maggi on Thursday, September 29, 2011 8:41 AM

Can someone tell me the most recent issue of CTT to feature an S-gauge American Flyer project layout? I have many back issues but none have one that I have found. I see many O-scale projects layotus but figured they must have done a few in S gauge too.

Thanks.

I found the answer while digging through the "Download" section of articles for sale in their store. Called "Build a Great S Gauge Layout," it features several articles on constructing simple S gauge layouts. And the price was right!

I have read every issue and do not recall any S gauge layouts nor do I recall any standard gauge layouts although CTT has been around for an appreciable amount of time.. .Hopefully some one can correct me for your benefit. Update: I can see you found one. I am pretty surprised there .have not been more. Although I am not into S, I would enjoy looking at what one would look like in a footprint to the O layouts. More space for scenery, accessories etc?

Nothing is more fairly distributed than common sense: no one thinks he needs more of it than he already has.

I would love to see a project S Scale layout.  It does not have to be with triditional Flyer track but with American Models or S-Helper Track,  There is a lot of S out there today and such a layout could showcase some of the new items out there that many individuals do not know about.

Another area would be a review of S Scale Locomotives.   Lionel has made many unique and new items for S-Scale and I have seen no reviews at all on them.  American Models and S-Helper  has also release new items over the past few years and again no S Scale reviews.

We've actually reviewed a fair number of S gauge locomotives, and the manufacturer's know, if they have something new, they can send it in for review.

American Models: GP9, FA2, RS3, GP35, PA1, GG1, Amtrak set, S-12 switcher, 4-6-2, Pennsy Torpedo, E8, TrainMaster, U25B, and SD60.

American Flyer: EP5, BLW diesel switcher, 4-8-4, and 0-6-0T; plus we did two accessory reviews.

SHS: SW9, SW1, F3, F7, 2-8-0, and I believe I've reviewed two starter sets and I believe I did an overview review of freight car detailing.

They must have been prior to my discovery of Classic Toy Trains.  I did not know this publication existed until about five or six years ago. I have some previous issues but not all of them.
