What is the distance between the center of the outside rails for 'G' and Standard gauge?

Here you go, a table for most common track sizes.

"For model trains, gauge is the measurement between the two outside rails of the track. For toy trains, gauge is the measurement from the center of the two outside rails."  This was once done for the early Maerklin gauges, but is no longer customary.  In any case, all the distances shown are measured between the insides of the railheads, including the O-gauge numbers of 1.25 inches and 32 millimeters, despite what the footnote says.

The answers to your specific questions are 1 7/8 inches for G and 2 1/4 inches for standard, assuming 1/8-inch railheads.

Sorry for the typo.  I have corrected it in the post.
