My parade of Lionel Postwar Trains video in HD
Posted by dsmith on Thursday, June 9, 2011 9:28 AM

Many of you have seen the videos of my Lionel Postwar 5' x 9'  Layout over the past several years.  The video resolution has gradually increased with each new camera I have aquired.  Now, for the first time I have shot the layout in 720 HD so the video has more sharpness and better quality than I've been  able to provide in the past.  I am using a Canon SX 20 that shoots 720 HD video and 12 Mp still shots.  I also aquired an inexpensive 1000 watt double work light and I've bounced the light off the white ceiling.  This also helps provide a higher quality image.

I call this video "My parade of Lionel Postwar Trains".  I have recorded all my engines and almost all my freight and passenger cars passing by the same spot on my layout, one right after the other.  It was quite a project and took several hours to record and some time to edit too.  I hope you enjoy it and more HD will follow soon.

Neat video, and a very nice roster of PW locomotives. I need to do what you have done, I have a lot of individual videos but not a continuous video of the trains.

Great video David.  Thanks for sharing it.  I especially liked all the giraffe cars lined up together.

Your video looked fantastic in full screen mode! Appreciate all the effort that went into producing it. I will also second the comment regarding the giraffe cars. Maybe a follow-up sometime with the giraffes ducking under a telltale?

All are outstanding Dave!

I like those animated cars of animal and human figures.

Thanks for pointing that out, David. I missed it when viewing the threads this morning. You've done a great job using the available space for your layout.

I'm guessing that you made the giraffe trips for the bridges yourself. I'm thinking of doing something similar on my layout. Could you share what materials you used for your activators? Thanks.

Robert, I used clear plastic sheet that is about an 1/8" thick.  I cut strips of it the same height as the Lionel activator and hotglued it to the layout.
