OLD ZW vs. 180W Bricks
Posted by DMNJRR on Thursday, July 29, 2010 11:31 AM

Which is the better power source? I'm feeding TPCs on a track with six blocks and three power sources.  I always thought the old ZW was better than any of the new stuff but my TPCs keep shutting down and I am being told it's because of the OLD ZW.

What will I loose if I switch over to the Bricks?

The new bricks will only give you power verses being able to adjust the power with an older ZW, also the older ZW has a whistle & direction contrtols on outputs A & D. The older ZW has about 190 watts of usable power total across all four terminals, even the 275 watt model. The power on an older ZW is rated for input power or what it draws from the 120 volt outlet in your house, you need to allow for electrical drop(there might be another term but that's the easiest way to describe it) in any transformer in order to rate it for output power.

Look at your wiring before saying the older ZW is not compatible to the TPC units. You may need to swap the common and the output terminal wires at the TPC inputs. Also without being able to see your wiring or other hook-ups, I say look at the wiring again!
