Cleaners for locos, motors, etc.
Posted by Boonter on Sunday, June 20, 2004 6:31 PM
Once again I see a reference to "TV Tuner" cleaner as a solvent for cleaning electrical components. I've seen the same reference in publications. My question: Where in this world is this stuff sold? I've tried every store, tv repair shop, Radio Shack in my little town (N.Calif) I can think of with only blank stares as a result. Is it similar to the automotive products used for their electrical stuf ? "Lectra-Motive" etc? Any clues appreciated.

Use brake and electrical cleaner sold at automotive stores. The stuff works great, and its cheap. Just use it outside though, nasty smell. I buy mine from NAPA, and its called Brake and Electrical Cleaner.

I got my can at Radio Shack but the auto parts store equivalent is supposed to be cheaper. The upside to the Radio Shack stuff (when you can find it) is there's no problem with using it inside. If it has any odor, it's pretty mild. I don't notice it.

Instead of asking for TV tuner cleaner Ask for Electrical Contact Cleaner.
See links below;

Beware, don't run your engine just after being cleaned, sparks can ignite the cleaner very easily. Wait until dried up...[:-^]
