Turnpike Scenic Layout No.70135
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, June 20, 2004 12:43 PM
Hopefully someone here can help. I have an elderly neighbor who's wanting to part with her deceased husband's train collection from the 1950's. I agreed to research the items for her and have found all of the items but one. In her garage she has a plastic scenic layout of some type. It's still in the original packaging.. so here's the information that the label and box reads:

????-N- Turnpike Scenic Layout
No. 70135
New England Doll and Novelty

The first part of the label that has the item name is marked through and I can't make it out. I tried searching google with various combinations of the above information and could not find it. If anyone has any insight I'm sure she would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi Graflex, those scenic layouts are mostly made from plastic, and I assume it is in N-scale. With this question you better go to the Model Railroader forum, since the forum members here are more dedicated to 0 scale. You could look around on e-bay to find matching prices, because these preformed landscapes are a product of recent years you'll probably find them new in stores as well. Those advertisements could give you a clue of what it's worth.
Lots of succes with it.
And if you plan to stay to chat about 0 trains, I would like to welcome you of course..

Could you give me any more info?
Is the box sealed or can you open it?
What graffics are on the box?
Can you tell who made it?
New England Doll and Novelty are probaly just the ones who sold it.

eZAK:
I went across the street to talk to the neighbor again last night and she found the rest of the set. It is a Train 'N Turnpike set made by Marx. I took a picture of the set, compared to the link you provided, this is in pristine condition.

However, when I look for the matching scenic layout that goes with this set I can't find any information. It's in it's original box with matching labels to the Train 'N Turnpike Set (link above). So it seems that I have some clarity, but I still can't find any refrence to the scenic layout. She's not at home right now, but when she returns I'll take a picture and post it for you to see. Thanks!
