Loco Promlems

This is the first time I posted on this forum. I have a problem with one of my steam locomotives. I took it apart and now I am having trouble putting it back together. It is a small Lionel 2-4-2 with the number 236 on the side just below the cab window. I can't seem to figure out where the drawbar hooks up to the motor housing. I contacted Lionel, and they couldn't seem to help me either. I am also looking for suggestions and ideas on building a tunnel. I have some one inch thick styrfoam left over from covering my table and was considering using this. I figured on using plywood for some of the frame where the tunnel will be up against two of the walls. I want to build to be able to be lifted off in case I need to get at the track below. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

The big problem here is you chose the hardest engine to repair that Lionel ever made!!!
Scouts are a Bi--- to put back together,But on your rear wheels there should be a tab that turns up,You have to put that into a slot in the back of the motor unit then the tab that hooks to the tender should go into the guide on the rear of the loco shell and then insert the rest of the motor unit into the shell,
If you have put the motor unit in already without the trailing wheels you will have to remove it to get the rear wheels in !!!

On the foam insulation thing. I plan on using it too. Some of the guys here are experts on this. Sure you will get help. Kalmbach has some great books on this too. Sure you will get some good answers. Welcome

For the tunnel try cutting the plywood into ribs with the rough conture (sp?) you want with the tunnel portion cut from the middle. You can connect the ribs with stringers covered with screen and plaster or fill in with the foam cutting away that portion that doesn't look like the mountain. Like a sculpture cuts away the marble that isn't part of the statue that's already in there.

Remember don't use a solvent based glue with the foam.

If it doesn't look right keep at it till it does, don't get discouraged on the first try.
