Something to keep in mind?
Posted by daan on Monday, June 14, 2004 8:55 AM
I have a small something to say about what I think to notice in recent subjects.

The thing I like about this Forum, is that everyone is still adult enough to behave himself and enjoy writing about toytrains. Besides all the lawsuiting topics (which is not pleasant, but understandable) there also pops up a CTT versus OGR/ other trainforum discussion (disguised in other threats) where some people even feel personally offended and start to punch back.

I think it's a shame that bandwith is misused for topics based on discussing deleted messages and topics from other forums. In some postings I get the feeling that we are used as a sort of "back room" for OGR (and other) members who discuss their problems about that forum over here.
I don't think that it's the purpose of this forum to host those discussions, but I'm not the moderator.
I myself am not waiting for these messages and I'm afraid that they disturb the peacefull and pleasant way we use to get along with eachother.

My appologies to anyone who's offended by this message.[B)]

Daan, I don't open even half the topics that I see here nowadays, certainly none with "OGR" in the title, and none that seem "political". I'm interested only in the trains themselves (and even then not TMCC and track-style topics--but that's a personal preference). I might not have seen this one had it not been from you, since you strike me as a levelheaded and sensible fellow.

I am in agreement with both of you, I find myself scanning the other forum's topics but opening/reading fewer and fewer. Likewise I rarely open any topic that seems to be an us vs. them or lawsuite related.

Daan,

I appreciate the spirit of your post and I agree in principle. However, one of the plusses of this forum has been the freedom to discuss topics that are somewhat controversial, topics that sometimes are deleted on other forums. I believe that some of our posters are simply expressing their frustration over the issue of unwarranted censorship.

I am in total agreement with you that we should make every effort to remain civil and keep this forum the pleasant and fun avenue of discussion that I generally find it to be.

Thanx for the replies. I don't want to offend anyone or take the freedom of speech away from anyone.
But argue, lawsuits and critisism on other forums shouldn't become the main forum activity though its tempting to relief stress when sharing it with others.
The problem is that if one starts with it, someone else has something to tell about it too and another one gets angry about something else and starts a new subject.
Before you know it has nothing to do with toytrains anymore..
Let's try not to get it that far..
