REVERSING POLARITY?

hello everyone, i am intrested in making a reverse loop on my layout, i dont not have much room my layout is 2x4 but i have the atlas book and i should be able to have enough room however i am stumped on the saying reversing polarity i know that i will need insulaters but do i have to cut the track or could i use the insulaters as connecters, if i use the insulaters should i be fine or is there anything else i will need to do, and once again does that have anything to do with reversing polarity?[V]

Tim, the guys are right, the best place for your questions is over on the MR forum. The guys here may have the answers, but don't share your interest in N scale. You will get more and maybe better answers to your over there. We aren't trying to be rude, just trying to direct you to the best source of information for your questions.[:)]

Because of your name, everyone is assuming that you are building a n scale layout. In the chance that you are buiding a 3 rail layout, you don't need to worry about the track polarity. One advantage to 3 railin'.

previous posting from Tim was about N scale. How much O or S scale can you put on a 2 x 4 foot layout[?]

Ooops DC? We don't have that! We run on good old AC.. Reversing loops are simple in DC though. Take about 3ft out of your turn, isolate every rail from the rest and attach 2 diodes (electronic devices which only let power through in one direction) between the isolated trackpiece and the rest of the track in that way that the train only runs in 1 direction and if running the other direction it blocks there.
What happens is that you run your train in the loop, and it runs into the isolated section. It stops because power is blocked. You change polarity on your transformer and the power will travel through the diodes and power the track where the train stopped. The train now runs out of the loop and onto your layout again.
