We had the opportunity to put this ATSF 3751 4-8-4 up against the Third Rail version which is a brass import. The Lionel detail is really nice, all dimensions accurate, and our model had a flawless finish. The engine also ran flawlessly. Lionel did an outstanding job.

My 10 year old son and I spent the evening running ours. Detail and finish is beautiful. Sound is excellant with Railsounds 5.0. Whistle sounds exactly like the recording of 3751 on the Pentrex video tape. Unfortunately, steam exhaust sounds are still trapped at two chuffs per revolution from the factory. Very noticeable with the large, graceful drivers. I have already modified mine to four chuffs per revolution with a reed switch and four magnets on the inside of the second driver. Mininmum speed is 6 Scale Miles Per Hour. Performance not quite as good as PS-2, but still very good.
