First I want to thank those of you who have offered information on the Lionel train set I just aquired!

With that aquisition I also obtained a Marx set ..It is Plastic

I am hoping to detemine what year this set is from and a estimated resale value, the set appears to be in fair to good shape . It is in styrofoam bottom with no box.

Hi,

It sounds like you have a Marx # 7215A set. I found one in Like New condition being offered for $75 on the internet. See the following:

That price does sound about right for your set. As for how old it is, this set was manufacturered from 1972-74, so it's about 30 years old. Also, some other information if you're interested: This is a Marx set of the 4-wheel plastic vaiety. The engine is a GE 44-ton switcher. Also, the red Pennsylvania "coal car" is actually called a gondola car.

If yo uneed info on running Marx traisn and accessories, stop by my website (listed i nmy signature). I have info i nthe O/O27 section

And to correct soemthing, the loco is NOT a 44 tonner. The 44 tonner is a center-cab switcher. That Marx loco is a crude attempt at the GE 70-tonner. Come to think of it, when I livved on Staten island, SIRT ran a 70 tonner past my house almost every day.

A rumor was floating around that Marx went out of business. Any truth?

The Louis Marx Company was sold to Quaker Oats in 1972. Quaker Oats sold it to a british concern in 1975, and the British company was bankrupt by 1980.

The NEW Marx is in question. The new Marx Toys, whichg recasts a few old toys and owns the logo, sounds like it is in trouble, if not already out. From what I hear the New MarxTrains / Ameritrains, which leases the right to use the logo, is doing okay
