CAB-1 Antena
Posted by lionnut on Saturday, June 13, 2009 8:35 PM

I have been trying to find areplacement for a broken CAB-1 antenna (6SP-2868-002).  I have been in touch with Lionel, but they have been out of stock for at least 3 months.  I have also been to Radio Shack and their antennas don't seem to match up at all.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

One of our club members changes out the CAB-1's to a "rubber ducky" that we use on the club layout. I'll drop him an e-mail and try to get some info.

I am having the same problem. To get by until a Lionel replacement is made I’m using a universal replacement antenna from Radio Shack.  I don’t have the part number but it is 8” long closed with a red plastic tip. When extended it is 36” long.

It is no way a direct replacement because it is longer and a slightly smaller diameter. I think I had to enlarge the hole in the antennas base for the screw for the signal wire.

This will keep us going until a new one is out, just cant collapse the antenna all the way to the base. It being longer it sticks out about 4”.

To All Forum Members,

At the moment I don't have the same problem with my Cab-1 Wireless Remote Controller, but it's noteworthy to know where to get a replacement.

One of the reasons, for waiting so long for a replacement part form Lionel, is that, not only are they understaffed, recently some employees were sent to help with a Lionel promotional presentation, sometime last month, I believe it was at the York, Penna. Train Show meet.

I found this out from a Lionel Technical Support Dept.employee, when I called to order a replacement part.  And yes, you still have to wait a long time before your phone call is answered!

I had read that Lionel is attempting to resolve the long holds on their service line. The last time I called their service line, about a year ago or so I got right through. I think this is a priority for the VP of Lionel's tech services.

Here is a link to a thread on the OGR forum about replacing the original antennae with a rubber duck:

edit to add: Not sure why it did not create a link. You are going to need to copy and paste the address into your web browser.

So what I am hearing is that Lionel may eventually make the antennas when they get around to it.  But we may not know when that may be.

The clubmember responded to my e-mail with essentially the same info as was posted in the link a couple of responses ago.

As to Lionel having replacements for the old ones, in my opinion, no big deal. The "rubber ducky" is just as effective in operation and a whole lot better in terms of child safety and durability.

I just used the one from Radio Shack. I just wrapped tape around it to snug it in at theexit hole of the case. My layout is only 5x13 so I really don't extend it that long but I't seems to work better than the origanal. Don't know if it is because it's longer.

Rob,

Thanks for fixing the link I posted.

I'm used to having the software automatically recognize a link and do all the work. Oh, I think I see how to do it now, just use the chain button.

That link to the rubber ducky antenna is no longer good, does anyone have the info about it?

This is an active pdf file.

I haven't confirmed this, but take a look at The Lionel FasTrack Book.

I also believe this part can be purchased from Brasser's Train Repair in Michigan.
