Not a correction, but a confirmation. The Greenberg PW Manual shows the replacement Milk Can Set, 3462-70, came with seven cans. BTW, these cans had magnets on the bottom; I believe cans for current milk cars do not.

Check the ads in CTT. A couple of years ago I bought some extra from one of the advertisers, can't tell the difference between original and repo's. I don't remember who it was but they usually have a small ad for small accessories.

Try Jeff Kane www.ttender.com

Be sure to tell him you want the ones with magnets...

Yes, I agree about the magnets. I do recall that they had magnets on the ones that I USED to have

I have the O gauge version with the brown top, and I remember 7 also, though the cans are slightly different from the 027 cans.

Mine came with seven when bought boxed from another collector.

FYI - When operating, I only load 5, as this seems to be the number, for my car anyway, for flawless operation. Had jam ups loading with all seven.

You got it Woodsy, "There's no use crying over spilt milk." Sorry guys, I had to. (I can just hear the groans.)

Chris, I think that is the difference between the 027 and O gauge milk cans. The 027 have the magnets in them, but they should be interchangable.

waltrapp,
In 1999 I bought reproduction aluminum Milk Cans with the magnets @$.50 each from:
EARHART TECHNOLOGY
123 Santa Barbara Street
Santa Barbara, CA 93101
Phone 1-805-963-8786
Fax 1-805-564-4847

I got the impresion it was a train guy with a machine shop. Do not know if he still sells them. GREAT PRODUCT, NICE GUY, WELL WORTH THE MONEY.
There was a 5 can min. order but you should buy $20.00 worth so when you launch them across the room into the hot air register, you will have a few extra....also they are great extra detail items on your loading docks.

thanks guys for answering and for also chipping in with some places to find them if the hunt at York proves to be fruitless.

This is interesting to hear that there are "O" and "O27" ones and they are different! I have the Postwar milk car. While technically 'O', many times I hear these cars referred to as "O27 size". I guess I'll just be careful when buying them and ask if they fit the PW car.

thanks for the heads up. - walt

Postwar milk cars came in two sized. The smaller cars, numbered 3462,3472,3482 all used an all metal can with a magnet in the base. Over the years the number of cans included varied between seven and five. The cans came in a tiny box. The larger cars were the 3662 and 3672 (bosco) milk cars. These cars used a two piece can. The can had a plastic top with a metal base. No magnet. The bosco can was yellow. These cans came packed in envelopes of seven cans.
