Lionel Volume Control?

We recently picked up a set of lionel Alco A's brand new in the box never run(till we got ahold of them Ha[(-D] Ha)one is powered #6-18922 and the other #6-18923 is not but has a diesel horn in it .When the train is running down the track you can hardly hear the horn [banghead]when it sits still its not much better[xx(].Does anyone know if the volume can be turned up for the horn[%-)].I took the shell off to check it out and on the circut board there is what looks like a volume controll that is adjusted with a micro screw driver.I haven't tryed to adjust anything yet and before I do I'd like to get some educated opinions on this[bow].We just want to hear the horn[:P].Thank's

Just turn the volume screw carefully with a small screwdriver. If the volume goes down, turn the other way. Usually, clockwise increases the volume because it is just a small rheostat controlling the current to the speaker. The volume adjustments should turn real easy. It shouldn't be that fragile unless it is so corroded that it has frozen, but I have never seen one in that bad of shape unless it has been subjected to moisture, battery acid, etc.

Check and see if one of the fans on top open to access the volume control

Thanks spanky but these are the older style A's built back in 91 or 94. I've adjusted the 2 pots inside and all they are for is to change the tone of the horn.I got to looking at the shell and there are no holes for the sound to leave the loco. With the shell off the horn is a lot louder I dont know if I should drill out the fan screen with micro bits to create somewhere for the soud to leave the shell or not I mean I dont plan on getting rid of this set anytime soon! [:)] And I'm not concerned with resale I like to play with my train's[;)]

Instead of knocking out the fans, can the rear engine door's window be removed?

Also, I have heard of a speaker called "Fat Boys", and that might help, but I have no idea how much.

Check out Train America Studios and ask them via email if they can help you. They have helped me on some TMCC/Railsounds installations.

Can cut out grills and add some of the "real hobby" [I'm joking now] fans from one of the suppliers. I'd try Buckeye's suggestion and "re-horn". Try digitdyam.com think that was one that has electronics too.
