A NEW old track?
Posted by Kooljock1 on Sunday, March 28, 2004 8:19 AM
On page 78 of the current issue(May 2004) of CTT, in the fascinating article on the early use of plastics at LIONEL, there's an intriguing photo from the 1938 issue of "Modern Plastics" a trade mag.

I recognize the whistle impellers and bakelite parts for the O-72 switches and OCS sections, but what is in that photo at the top?

Is it a new track system? Is it a piece of "00" out of scale with the others? Did it die a still-birth due to the onset of WW II, and the Post War shift away from Bakelite as a "one-bounce" plastic?

I'd love to know!

Interesting. Looks like a lot of the "new" track systems being offered, way ahead of its time.

Well I've read the article now, and it appears that this is a close-up of LIONEL OO gauge track. But boy, if they had only made it bigger back then!!!

It's even nicer looking than Super O.
