Dual-usage Dog Door
Posted by FJ and G on Wednesday, March 24, 2004 9:22 AM
Tonight I'm heading down to PetsMart to pick up a dog door so my beagle can roam the yard during the day and come inside if it gets too cold or hot.

A crazy thought occurred to me last night as I was sipping some Port from the bottle and watching some kind of monster motorcycle show.

At some point in the future, why not extend my tracks outside onto the patio and perhaps beyond, you guessed it, thru the dog door? The trains would remain indoors but could, weather permitting, be run outside.

The only drawback would be if #99, with a full head of steam, doing 120 smph, barrels out thru the dogdoor just as the pooch is coming in.

Who, I wonder, would win that collision?

Dave:

Do you really want to find out which one would win the that collision? Even if the beagle wins, it's likely to get hurt, maybe even badly. Why would you want to do that to your dog?

Better idea: put a "train door" to the outside somewhere else, which the beagle won't ever use. One that locks so other critters can't get in. You may even elevate it above ground level, so you don't have to worry about your track & ties sitting in pools of water.

Just a thought

Dave,

Are you sure you were just "sipping" the port? [:)]
