Bar end trucks?

What do they mean by bar end trucks on postwar stuff?

If you look at the side of the truck, between the wheels and above where the coil springs are located there is a slot that Lionel uses to fasten the sides to. There are the bar end trucks and there are stapled end trucks.
The staple end trucks were used on rolling stock from 1945 -1951, the bar end trucks were used from 1951 - 1959.
