How many of you have ordered the Lionel Acela Express? As you know, they need atleast 2000 orders.. I have ordered one myself, and a good friend of mine has also one. So that's two. Only 1998 to go.

From what I've been hearing it seems Lionel will easily get the 2000 orders needed. There seems to be a lot of positive inquires as well as folks just saying they want it. But alas it is also too rich for my blood and really doesn't fit my RR.

I ordered one from Charly Ro. Love it. I just hope it actually DOES run on 072. The Veranda I got after the five year wait did NOT! 084 at least! And BTW all the talking about OGR's forum, they are having the guy who designed it on their forum on March 17th I think it is. Check Lionel's web site for info. ONly 15 days left to order one!

Personnally I am not ordering it. I don't really like any of the modern passenger stuff. I did order the new Santa Fe set that is the special release item, that is more to my liking.

Having ridden the real thing, I think the Lionel set is way cool even if it's too expensive for me. I wonder if Lionel is reproducing the sound of the prototype's tray tables rattling in unison when the train hits a rough spot in the track?[;)]

I have placed an order for an Acela (a.k.a. "American Flyer"). While I was not able to ride the great "name" trains of the past, I am able to relate to this set because I've ridden the Acela, as well as the Bullet trains in Japan, the ICE in Germany, and the TGV II in France. The introduction of Lionel's Acela is also not unlike being present for the intro of their model of the prewar M10000. Yes, it's pricey, but it shall have more features and operating details than anything to have come before it.

Lionel has just announced that they are definitely going to make the Acela. You may still be able to order one if dealers have pre-ordered extra ones. The lowest price I found is $1500 at www.hobbystation.net
