Value of Century Club car
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, February 19, 2004 8:42 PM
I've been trying to get an idea of what the Lionel (members only) Century Club car ( 6-29204) is worth by trying to follow one at auction on Ebay but none have been posted recently. Does anyone here who follows Ebay prices know how much they eventually sell for? The number of actual cars made is a mystery too. The folks at Lionel tell me its policy not to reveal production runs. Thanks.

The LCCA (Lionel Collector's Club of America's) "E-TracK" has 4 currently listed with an asking price of around $400.00. I have not seen one sell on e-bay or anywhere else so I cannot validate the value.

Since early 2004 several have sold on Ebay for around $150.00. Guys are still asking $250-300, but they aren't getting that price.

I believe the above comment is true.

I remember seeing those that went for ~ $150 (and slightly sorry I didn't try to get one).

One thing of note with those was that the seller (It might have been an auction house, I don't remember which one) listed 3 at the same time, thus competing with himself. This might have held the price on those down a bit.

As for at train shows, most are still looking for $300 plus. At one time (key phrase here) people may have been asking and/or getting that or more ($500 at the initial frenzy?), but I doubt anyone wants one that bad anymore. Some sellers seem perfectly content to drag the same stuff from show to show for years.

As a side note, the overall (at the end of it all anyway) perception that CC 1 was a flop may have hurt this car somewhat. (I heard a dealer at York kid someone that he would pay $10 per pound for a CC1 collection)

Hope this helps.

Remember the Girls' Train. Someday that which today is scorned may well be ardently pursued by collectors. You never know.

Darn, I guess I should write him a check right now! [;)]

Although, technically, I believe his "complete" description is incorrect. He does not list the miniature die-cast versions of each engine offered at the end of the CC1 run. I was somewhat impressed that he is selling the longer case with the NYC F3's though. Lots of people passed on that. (understandably)
