American Flyer info
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, August 3, 2001 9:10 AM
I have in my possession a number of American Flyer loco's and cars. I have 2 green #4000 locos, 1 burgandy #4000 loco, 1 burgandy #4667 loco, with 2 different sets of passenger or observation cars (not sure which)...with either "America" or "Pleasant View" on the sides, green and burgandy, 2 #4040 Mail cars, and a #4633 loco "Lone Scout", #4252 "Lone Scout" observation, #4250 "Lone Scout" club car and #4251 Pullman. Would like any information on these, such as year, value, etc. Thank you for your help.

Hi Kenny,

Kalmbach has a couple books available that can provide the history and value of American Flyer S gauge trains.

Greenberg's Pocket Price Guide, American Flyer 2001
Price: $9.95

Greenberg's Guide to American Flyer S Gauge, Volume I: Motive Power and Rolling Stock, 5th Edition
Price $49.95

The second ook provides a lot more specific information than the first. But if you are primarily looking for years and values, the pocket guide would probably be a better valve. Both books can be purchased here at this site and most hobby stores that carry Lionel/American Flyer.

Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of either book myself.
