Loosing R.P.M.

I have a problem with my Lionel TMCC engines. Lionel engines have 3 stages of rpm while running. All engines are only 2 years old or new. When engines get up to speed going around the layout, if have noticed on some engines that the rpm goes from high to idle , and the engines are still moveing, and I have not touched the the CAB-1 to slow them down. It doesnt sound too good when the engines are going at a good speed around track and then all of a sudden they go into idle mode sounds just like that. My dealer said that maybe the PCB boards will have to be replaced. Anyone have this problem before? Your feedback is welcome. Dash9 John.

I'm wondering if ths isn't actulally a feature designed into the board on purpose. On real locomotives the RPM sound you hear is the diesel generator working hard to get the train moving. Once the train is up to speed, it doesn't have to work as hard to maintain speed, unless its going up hill. Steam engines behave similarly, making the most noise when they are working hardest, and settling down once tp to speed.

Just for fun, try this, start the train, but set the throttle up to half speed. When the sound goes to idle, incerase the speed again. Do the RPMs go back up?
