Anyone have Post-War Celebration Series master list?
Posted by FEClionel on Monday, January 12, 2004 10:07 AM
I'm attempting to acquire a few of these cars and I was wondering if there was a master list of all the cars available in the series. Also when will the series end? The 2004 offerings in the 2003-2 book look pretty weak.

Like yourself, I have also recently returned to the O gauge trains of my youth so I am not an expert here. I believe the designation of Post War Celebration has only been used for the past 2-3 years but Lionel has reissued many or the cars produced in the '40s and '50s without the PWC reference on the box. For example the 3462 barrel car was rereleased in the original black/white ATSF colors and then later as the gray with blue lettering. The first one has a "PW" stamped on the car but it did not have the current PWC logo on the box. I'd suggest tring to locate as many catalogs produced for the past 5 years to try and determine what has been rereleased. The good news for operators of post war you can now have at a reasonable price many of the hardest to find post war pieces, now with perfect paint jobs, and freer running wheelsets.

Thanks for the help! Your so right about how nicely the new post-war celebratio stuff looks and runs! I'm really focusing on the rolling stock until I can afford some of the engines(W.P F-3, Texas Special F-3, NJ FM, and GG1) Can't wait to get a hold of a few of years past catalogs!

Dear FECLionel,

Yes, I should have listed the rolling stock. I suggest you obtain past year Lionel catalogs

Another way to find out what has been remade is to search the auction sites for the original Lionel item. Many times the remake will show along with the new 5 digit number. I was looking for a 6415 three dome tank car and found the 16152 is the modern remake. No reference to PWC in the description, or on the box other than the fact that 6415 is printed on the car.
