1666 engine continued
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, January 2, 2004 8:34 PM
I have a Lionel 1666 engine - lights work but engine does not move.
I discovered that the gear drum in the E-unit was shattered -

will this prevent the engine from running.?

should I try to replace gear drum or entire E-Unit?

thanks

That would stop it from running. You can just replace the drum, but it is a slightly tricky procedure, and you need to be careful of the fingers (two little sets of contacts that touch the drum). There is a special pick like tool that is used to adjust the fingers, it kind of looks like something that a dentist would use. According to the repair manual that I have, your e-unit is a 100-25, and the drum is a standard 3 position 259E-1.
