Hi i just got a 671 engine and i was told it has nickle wheels. Is this a good thing did they come with diffrent wheels any info on these engines will be great also what should i do to clean and oil it thanks.

Both the 671 and 2020 had nickle rimmed wheels until the 681 came out in 1950. This was standard practice for Lionel as all engines had this feature from the prewar die cast steamers until the sintered iron wheels were necesarry for magne-traction. I think they look nice and there s nothing wrong with them. The only negative is they don't have as much traction as a magne traction or rubber tired engine will, but still a nice running engine. The only 671 that does not have nickle rims is the 1952 version.
