Great start to the Labor Day Weekend
Posted by envfocus on Friday, August 31, 2007 5:14 PM

I played "hooky" this afternoon and spent it moving my first layout from the garage into its permanent resting place in the basement.  While I was moving things around, I found my old Pittman catenary poles that I thought I'd lost.  So I spent the afternoon adding them to my layout.  I hope I have enough up and running by Sunday to join in on Sunday Photo Fun.  Hope everyone else's holiday has started out great!

I love your trains and your layout, envfocus. I hope to acquire some prewar trains someday.

Don't remember ever seeing that little power station on your upper level; rare piece?  Nice collection, and I like how your trimmed out your benchwork.

Love your layout - very nice!  3 separate trains at the same time, right?

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement everyone.  Didn't get as much done today as hoped, but let me answer a few questions:

Fifedog:  That's a 435 Power Station.  It's the "little brother" to the more popular (and larger) 436 Power Station.  It wasn't as popular as the 436 because the idea behind these stations was to hide your transformer within them.  The 436 could fit all of them at the time, but the 435 could only fit the entry level A and B sized ones.

Jim:  You're right.  My layout has three separate loops.  I wanted to keep it as simple as possible, so three loops and no switches.  Here's a link to my general track plan if interested (RJ's TrackPlan)

cxst30:  I have 10 single pole Pittman caternary poles.  Again, I like them because they are simple-one pole and a small clip to hold the wire.  Mine are just for show, but I know they could be wired to run an electric locomotive.  I'll be sure to put a photo in tomorrow.

Traindaddy:  The mat is a rug product called Ozite Top Guard.  It comes in black, but I painted it green and it turned out great.  I'm going to use some of the unpainted black pieces under the coal elevator, magnet crane, and powerstation.  Here's a posting I did a few months back when I found the stuff (Ozite Post)

Thanks again everyone for your encouragment.  This forum has really given me the knowledge and incentive to make a layout for myself a reality.  See you at the Sunday Photo Fun......RJ

I missed the original post.  Thanks for the OZITE link.
