Hogwarts Express set $299. British "Hall" 4-6-0 and 3 Mk1 coaches. This must be a dream.

You can still preorder for like $60 off and free shipping from several sources!

Oh,

Well then I shall be pre-ordering this set. There were a few other things in the catalog that caught my eye, namely the special locomotives section (I'd love to get the Shay and Mike, but I can't afford them). The K-4 is nice, but even though Pennsy steam was Brunswick Green, it is way too green.

But thats off topic. I still can't get over the detail on the 4-6-0 from the HE.

Of course its just a picture, but it looks very nicely detailed and using the tooling Lionel could (if it would, but probably won't) use the tooling and make a Great Western or British Rail Hall in many forms, names, and numbers.

They could also make some BR or GWR maroon coaches. I'd buy a BR Hall Passenger set if they made one, which probably will sadly not happen.

Lionel has "finally" got some smart "Bean Counters" running the company.

Let the projected high sales for a "Hogwarts" train set pay for the tooling.  Then open up the British market with other paint jobs and models.  Look out over there, here they come, Americans selling China products in the U.K.?

It's not a dream... unfortunately. Oh well! Big Smile [:D] If Lionel makes money off of it, that's fine with me.

Long live the BNSF .... AND its paint scheme. SchemerBob

You can count on this model becoming part of the thomas line by putting a face on the front and painting it blue. Hi James!

You're right, it's way too green in the catalog, but I've seen this in Lionel catalogs before, where the actual paint on the models is much closer to the prototype color.  My PRR J-1 from a few years back is one of these.  I wasn't going to buy one until I saw it on display.  The actual model isn't quite the almost-black color I've seen on freshly-painted prototypes, but it's a far cry from the catalog image. The K-4 may fall into the same category.

Good,

I sure hope the K4 is not like it is in the catalog. But even if it is, I'd buy it anyway. The Pennsy is my favorite Northern Railroad. My all time favs are the Southern, N&W, and then the Pennsy.

Daylight. The Hall will probably not be released in the Thomas line, but the wheel arrangement, a 4-6-0, is the same as Henry, so we might see Henry and some express coaches (The HE Coaches in Thomas colors).

I pre-ordered my Hogwarts Express a little bit ago from Just Trains. I'm glad it will be out before Christmas.
