Maine Central Boxcars
Posted by Jumijo on Wednesday, August 15, 2007 2:12 PM

A google search turns up plenty of different paint scheme images for Maine Central (MEC) boxcars, but which scheme and logo was in use during the mid 1950? Anyone? Anyone?

I thought the Maine Central just owned orange and black paint.

Here is a picture with them right side up, but I'm not sure about the 50s time line for these.

Here is one that should have been in use in the 50s.

All you need is a can of black Krylon for that, Chief. You have the decals. Besides, the only thing uglier than a black diesel is a black boxcar!

Northern New England History:

The Maine Central, the Boston & Maine, and the Springfield Terminal were merged into the Guilford Rail System.  Guilford paint job, Orange and Gray with reporting marks for one of the three lines.

That gives you four paint jobs to choose from, and now a fifth.

The name changes, Guilford buys out the Name and Logo of the bankrupt "Pan Am World Airways", starts a short haul and charter Air Line, and then re-names the railroad "Pan Am Railways".

Cars and locomotives are being repainted into Blue and White with Logos when due for service.

You can access the Guilford (Pan Am) quarterly magazine, The Pan Am Clipper, on line for more details and photos of "MEC" reporting marks on a "Pan Am" diesel.  www.guilfordrail.com

With all the heritage schemes in vogue of late, I think it would be great if Pan Am repainted some of their locos in the old MEC & B&M minuteman schemes.

I just viewed a few issues of the Pan Am Clipper and I really do like the Pan Am locomotive paint scheme! A huge improvement over the old Guilford style. I also notice that Pan Am has a Boston and Maine Airline...
