Lionel Pennsylvania Mikado

Hi Everyone,

Recently there was a thread regarding if people preferred actual photos or illustrations in catalogs. I was wondering if anyone had any actual photos of this particular Lionel Mikado from the 1st 2007 catalog.

 

I am thinking of adding it to my "wish list" but I'd like to see the actual thing, not an illustration. So far in my searches on the web I havent found one. Thanks,

I have the NYC version.  They look much better "in person" than in the illustrations.  No pictures of mine in action yet.

This was the TMCC PRR Mikado that lionel released at the end of last year, it was not in the catalog. I'm sorry I don't have a better view for you at this time.

Keep looking, I have seen the Pennsy at a LHS. I could not get use to the green color. With my small roster of locos I felt I needed to stay with the more comon black color, ended up with the NYC from the Hotbox Reefer Set. Also the Mikado is a standaed O but is small so it still looks good with traditonal sized cars.

I am 99% certain (outisde of taking measurements) that this Mikado is not Standard O.  Lionel lists the Mikado as "Tradional O Guage". Also, it does not appear in the Standard O section of the 07 Vol 1 catalog. 

It does look appropriate sized with O-27 sized rolling stock and operating cars.

The NYC's are not scale.  I did a couple of repaints and mods to 2 of them to convert to SAL for someone.  Though traditional they don't look all that bad with standard "O" cars.  Call it a light Mike.

A good, actual photo appears in "O Gauge Rail-Roading" run 222 June/July '07 as a product announcement on page 11. I bought this PRR semi-scale engine, and am very happy with it.

As far as it being "prototype" to the PRR...since the headlight on the Lionel model is centered on the boiler, the tender SHOULD read "Pennsylvania Lines", since these were used on "Lines West". The PRR Mikados on the rest of the system had the headlight on top, and the tender was lettered "Pennsylvania". Not a problem for me. Joe

The Pennsy did in fact own a number of USRA Mikes, though the road had little love for them and got rid of them as soon as it could.  Several of the cast-offs made it to the Frisco, as a matter of fact.

IMO, the color of this engine is a true Brunswick Green...that is, it looks like a "dusty" black, until you compare it to a "true" black engine. I personally like this color on a PRR engine, since it makes it look slightly "weathered".

Thanks for the replies guys. The green color was what actually drew my interest. I figured it might look nice with some green Pullman cars. I'll keep looking, maybe I'll see one soon.
