MTH has impressed me!
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, July 23, 2007 1:45 AM
For now that is... If anyone remembers, my dad and I have had 2 MTH trains go bad within months of each other which has made us question the reliability of these trains. Add all of the problems others on this forum have had, and I don't want to ever run my MTH. A sad thing to do to trains! Well, my dad has been down for a couple weeks and we decided to call MTH. Don't know why we didn't before. In any case, the service guy was easy to work with giving me suggestions over the phone and listening to the train. He finally suggested we try a chip from another PS 1 loco in my dad's Union Pacific Gas Turbine to see if the chip itself was bad. Sure enough, it was the actual chip and not a scrambled board. He referred us to the parts dept. and told us a new chip would be around $20. Even better! So we contacted them which was right at the end of the day on Friday. Left a message and expected a call on Monday. To our suprise, someone called us on Saturday and after talking to my dad, she notified him she'd be sending the chip out at NO COST! This really made us feel better about the trains and the company!!!

The only reason I said they've impressed me for now is because I still have a dead Daylight on my hands. I'm going to call this week and see what they can do for me. I'm not counting on a free fix but I am hopefull. Anyway, everyone I talked to there were very nice.

Here's what's funny. The museum I'm a member of had an old Proto sound board from a Scale GS4 daylight that was bad. They gave me the board for free. It was that chip we tried in the UP Gas Turbine. It was pretty funny to hear the Diesel engine "chugging" allong the tracks blowing a steam whistle.

GLAD all went well for you.  I too had a few problems with my MTHs and they sent me the stuff I needed.

I have 3 MTH engines. 2 steamers and a Dash 9.  The Dash-9 had issues when I bought it, but that is why I bought it. None of the fancy electronics worked, only the reverse unit, which is all I wanted anyway at the time.
