Switch controller help needed
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, December 24, 2003 1:30 PM
Can anyone recommend a compact. switch controller for my Lionel 027 switches. I got a couple off of ebay but they didn't have controllers. I thought about simple DPDT switches and then I saw the DZ -1000 switches from Z-stuff.

These are small and look like they'll do the trick. Do you think these will work, or can you recommend another solution.

Thanks everyone.

Any form of momentary switch would work. Atlas makes some switches that you slide then push. They can be ganged together, as many as you want.

An SPDT momentary rocker, or slide type could also be used. Another possibility is to use 2 seperate SPST momentary normally open switches. Check Radio Shack for these.

I saw this last idea a long time ago, but I don't remember where. It would be rather cool to do for an entire layout , and very inexpensive. Make a control panel with your track diagram on it, then drill two holes at each switch, one on each leg. Place a small bolt in each hole, and attach the wire leading to the switch machine to the back side of each corresponding bolt. Make a "hot probe" , basicly a wire with a handle and a metal contact, to supply power. Then just touch the probe to the bolt heads of the switches you want to throw.

Have fun!
