Exploding Boxcar
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, July 19, 2007 12:54 PM

Anyone have one? I am in Michigan on leave and loving it. Went to the LHS like I usually do when I am back in town and saw the Exploding boxcar for sale and the missle firing engine. Bought the both of them for about $60, not because it would ever fit in with the layout but because I thought it would be a fun toy. Well as fun as it is, that dang boxcar is a pain to put together. I can't imagine a youngster with the patience for one of these, like a game of opperation.

Well, back to shooting a boxcar.

I have one, maybe two.  They are a pain in the * to assemble.  They are still pretty much the best target for the Missile Launching cars.  My only complaint with these (launchers) are the launch springs have been wussed out, probably to comply with CPSC child safety rules).

I take it you have the new version. It is true that many of the newer versions of postwar have to be changed to comply with the strict standards of today. I heard that a helicopter car took a kids eye out in the sixties.

By the way, for those who have the rocket launcher. If the springs don't catch, It might be because the piece of foam is dissentigrated. Had to replance the foam before mine worked.

The post war exploding boxcar is not that difficult to put together, just a roof and two sides and if you want a nail like pin to go thru the roof to hold it place better, have to reset the release mechanism each time which works almost like a mouse trap.

The minute man missle launcher is another subject, as it can be finicky to say the least, the roof opens and the rocket lifts up and is fired by spring action.

I got mine when I was a kid, along with the 6650 Missle launcher car. I have gotten a new exploding boxcar because the original is wearing out. I used to be able to hit the boxcar when BOTH trains they were in were running: now the missle car has to be stable. I will shoot off my helicopter and satellite cars and sail my submarine cars.
