Care and feeding of 3 rail AC engines, when to oil and when to grease

Tonight we tried some engines that have been in storage for at least 8 years, some never ran.  Dry as a bone, sounded like a bucket of bolts.  Talking Lionel cheaper F3 units with both trucks driven.  Have a Lionel Oil kit, and PTE or something similar non plastic attacking white grease.  I know to use sparingly.  When do you use oil, and when do you use grease?  Also any other maintenance tips would be appreciated.  Thanks,  Dave

Grease for gears only.

Light weight oil for all other non-electrical friction points.

Electronic cleaner for all elect contact parts.

Just one point, don't use oil or grease on couplers.  Use the powdered lube for this job.
