Jack's Favorite: The G. Shepherd & Sons dog food plant from Menards

The G. Shepherd (get it?) building is a solid-looking structure built to last.

The no. 279-4494 O scale G Shepherd & Sons dog food pant from Menards

The secret is out: Jack the German shepherd is everywhere these days because he is part of the family business: G. Shepherd & Sons, makers of fine dog foods since 1926. And what is their top product? Jack’s dog food!

The 279-4494 building adds another unique structure to the O gauge line of Menards buildings. This is a multi-story building with simulated stone construction that appears to be ready to pass the test of time.

The front features left to right, a stairway to the second floor, an office entry, a recessed loading dock, an animated sign re-creating kibble falling from bag to bowl, and finally two storage silos.

The loading dock has a raised platform, a loading dock with two delivery doors and a staff doorway. Jack is providing security for several bags of Jack’s Dog Food.

Two employees are on the dock, one walking to the office door, and another is striding up the staircase.

There are two windows on the second story and the roof has downward slanting corrugated roofing. There are two employees performing topside maintenance. The roof itself has three vents, a dust collector, a propane-style tank, and a water tower (in the process of being painted). The water tower has a single warning light and the silos have four.

The rear of the building has a removable section for train run-through or a railway delivery siding. There is also advertising applied to the exterior, just in case someone driving by needs to be reminded Fido needs a new bag of food!

This is another creative building from Menards with plenty of detailing you can see. The illumination is great and the live action sign is pretty cool.

For illumination the factory requires a Menards 4.5 volt power supply, Menards SKU 279-4061, 279-4062, or 279-4050. You may wish to consider the no. 279-4681 9-piece Plug & Play accessory kits to serve multiple structures and vehicles. All are available separately.

The building costs $99.99 plus shipping. Order from www.Menards.com/Trainsand don’t forget to opt for shipment to your local Menards.

The building has the almost standard run-through/siding option and a nice stairway to the second floor.

Menards often adds a little worker humor, such as painting in progress.

The roof is very busy and might be the most detailed since the Morton Salt factory.
