The SD38 is probably my favorite diesel, mainly because of the railroads that owned them...PC, DM&IR, EJ&E, B&LE, DT&I, etc.
These things were supposed to be rare sightings even around the Chicagoland area.
This part of the CNIC was also notable for 'fallen flag' Canadian paint, including no end of C40-8 cowls in rare colors. But those are well outside the 50-year criterion...
"A CN Locomotive (660), still in EJ&E paint, was sighted in Memphis TN."

... across Poplar and Broad in Memphis, about 1:10pm, still in orange and white "J" paint.
Not quite at the 50-year cutoff, but only by a year or two.
