Caboose Restoration

A group of volunteers here in our little southern Ontario town are restoring an old CN caboose to its original 1938 condition. It was used as a hamburger emporium most recently. If you're interested, I'll try to find its history and more info on the restoration. I am told they have a second caboose they are using as scavenge parts. They are also putting up a wooden water tower and have already done a beautiful job of restoring our old railway station.

I think caboose restoration is needed. I also believe the caboose being replaced by a red blinking light took the romance out of railroads. I grew up in a neighborhood within Columbus Ohio, very strange place to see one but somone had one in their backyard, I snuck over to play in it a time or two. I will have to check to see if it's still there.

Well, the Museum around here was suffering from vandelism on the caboose they had, they gave it to the High School, and now it is in desperate need of restoration. whan I approached the school about how far deteriorated it is, they said "If it needs work YOU do it!." Its sad, but this is a case where the caboose will rot in place, collapse, dissapear, and no one but a little, no-name local will care.

yes
its way better than a scrapyard. but the railroad history is being left in the past
i think more towns or people should restore the cabooses and sell to museums or puplic parks for all to see

I think it's great! It's always nice to see a caboose somewhere and it's certainly much better than sending them to the scrapyard! I don't see why anyone shold think otherwise. Of course, I don't like it when some people paint them up weird of really alter their outward appearence, which does happen sometimes, but is rare.
