Without a doubt, ti was the Santa Fe "extra fare" Super Chief from Chicago to Los Angeles.

It's a toss-up.   I used to go to the Balboa Blvd in the San Fernandi Valley crossing of the SP in the early 50s just to watch the Daylight blast by at 79MPH w/ 20 cars and a matching GS-4 but having ridden the Aternoon Hiawatha at better than 100 MPH behind steam and, when I lived in Chicago, hung around the Canal St crossing to watch it leave every chance I got to spend a saturday downtown, it would have to get equal billing.

Although I was born too late, it would have too be The UP Streamliners and the Hiawathas. The Super Chief for me, too famous, because just because a bunch of famous people ride and has the most glamor doesn't mean it is the most famous. I'm not being mean, it's just that the Super Chief had adirect route and many rode it because it went to Los Angeles from Chicago or by the Grand Canyon. There is really no train that tops each other because its all opinion.
