When did the Burlington Northern start painting the top of the short hood on their diesels black?

I’m guessing that the black on the short hood was some type of anti-glare solution. I have found a photo of a U30C taken in 1980 that had the black short hood. There are many photos of green short hood units all the way into the early 90’s.
