New to laying track

Hello
This is my second time I layed a new track down and I have alot of trouble makeing the ends meet!
I'm trying to do a simple oval and it comes out looking bad! I start out strieght , but it doesn't end up that way.
I have a 13ftX23ft table and I am using 3rail altlas O track.
I need to be able to make a perfect oval before I can build my model railroad!
Is there any Ideas out there that could help me?
