Recently purchased a marx train at an auction.  Just now getting into model railroading.  I have the origional box with transformer, engine, coal car, box car, caboose and another car.  Made of tin with the track.  I think it was made in the 1940's not for sure.  where can I go to find out when it was made.  the number on the engine is 999.

You mght want to try asking in the Classic Toy Trains forum. If that doesn't produce an answer, try

You might also try the marxtrain group on Yahoo. There is a table there that lists approximate dates for various engines. Marx made a lot of 999's. I think there are about 3 different styles which are determined by the cow catchers! Folks at either site can probably offer a closer estimate on the age. The more information from the box or any other numbers would be beneficial.
