Hi all
I know of the following historical societies for BNSF Railways' predecessor railroads:
Santa Fe Railway Historical & Modeling Society
Friends of Burlington Northern Railroad
Burlington Route Historical Society
Great Northern Railway Historical Society
Northern Pacific Railroad Historical Association
SP&S Railway Historical Society
All cost about the same to join and all offer some kind of magazine or journal. I was wondering if there were any readers here that are members of said organizations and which of the list above is worth joining.
I belong to the middle four (well, I guess I'm lapsed now for the Burlington). All of them are very good, the GN and NP ones have been around a long time and have some really great people. The GN society's 'newsletter' is usually abour four separate things mailed together - one on the society news in general, updates on conventions etc., plus 2-3-4 separate pieces done by members on a particular area of GN history, like a history of a particular area on the GN or a particular class of locomotive. One of them is always Duane Buck's modeller's update, which I find very usefull. NP has a very good newsletter/magazine, and offers many NP books and videos thru their website.
Have to confess to only having gone to one convention - an NP one - but it was a blast !!
