Oil Well Derricks
Posted by johnm151 on Saturday, January 13, 2007 9:56 AM

In the January 2007 issue of MR Magazine the article starting on page 8o entitled "Modeling America's First Oil boom"  was a great article but I was looking for dimensions and sketches of the Oil Well platforms in both HO and N scale.  I would also like sketches and suggestions on the Oil Tanks next to he Derricks. Has there ever been a how to article on making these Dericks? If not does anyone have any ideas?

Google the Petroleum Museum in Midland, Texas.  If possible, visit it.  It's right next to I-20.

They have a lot of full-size artifacts, including a wooden oil derrick, nytroglycerine truck, all kinds and sizes of tanks, etc, etc...  I don't know about diagrams (histories tend to be long on words and short on useable pictures and drawings,) but, if you inquire, someone will probably answer.

Hope this helps.
