CSX will continue to a viable player, true they encountered more difficulities as compared to NS, but they seem to be on the road to recovery. CSX like NS will be major players when or if a second round of mergers occur, can you see a UP-NS, CSX-KSC wedding in the future, it could come to pass..

I agree with you totally on the ideas you presented. In my opinion on this merger idea. I think they should have just left Chessie Systems, Seaboard, etc. Under their control, but should have gave them automity to run themselves. I might be stupid on this issue, however; I believe this is better for the industry as a whole.[?]

There is a tendency (just watch the old line news media) for some people to metamorphose their fondest wish into "predictions". I think this is an example.

I don't believe it. I do think it would have been better if CSX and NS had left Conrail as a seperate railroad.

I agree with you also. I believe that Conrail should have been left as a seperate railroad. This way they could have taken some of the burden off both CSX and NS.

CSX is certainly not performing at the same level as other large railroads, but it is no where near being as in as much trouble as most domestic auto and auto parts manufacturers are in right now. CSX is making a profit, albeit not at levels like CN is, so....

I don't understand how rumors like that can get started. Anyone with any economic acumen who has looked at the numbers knows this is just a stupid idea. Even if a person has no economic background, all they have to do is look at the stock price which is hitting new highs all the time. Stocks going up is generally NOT a sign of a company headed for financial trouble.

Even if CSX went under who would bring back Conrail? Most likely BNSF or UP would buy them - I doubt the gov't would allow NS to do so (but then I've been wrong before). Or if that's too much for them to swallow, then everyone buys pieces. I really don't see NS giving up what their part of Conrail.
