I heard that there is still pockets of conrail left in the US. Is this true or just a rumor?

Conrail has been divided between NS and CSX, true some blue units remain until such time that they recieve new paint, but alas Conrail is now among the departed. Out west, the occcasional Patched SP and Rio Grande (only 3 unpainted RG examples exist, the last C&NW unit was repainted into Armour yellow earlier this year) may be observed if one is diligent, so it will take time to erase the Conrail image, this could be the cause of the rumor.

Thanks for your help on this topic. I was just wondering about the mystery pockets of Conrail ghosts. Do you believe in a CSX, NS merger?

Not being one to start rumors, this is strictly my opinion and should be dabated as such:: Negative on a NS-CSX merger, if such merger activity were to occure I envision CSX with a BNSF,KCS or CN partner. NS would be the lonely stepchild of the East and would have to seek merger as a means of survival, I still contend UP would be that partner..

Dave. Thank you for the idea's in your posting.
I can see a merger between CSX and CN. This, I believe, would be a serious merger to watch out for in the near time to come.
Keep in touch.

I do believe there are pockets of Conrail left in the northeast at several small locations. The locations are ones that are at major interchanges/ports where it would have been anti-competetive to give outright to either NS or CSX. There is mention of it in the recent Trains magazine articles on the northeast after Conrail articles(2 parts).

Someone please correct me if I read that wrong.
