Oregon Electric was a freight-oriented interurban that was owned by Great Northern. Two of its articulated (B-B-B-B) freight motors were sold to North Shore Line in 1947.

Ben13:

Two good sources for information on both the Oregon Electric and United Railways are [1] The Northwest's Own Railway -- Spokane, Portland & Seattle Railway and It's Subsidiaries (Volume Two) by Walter R. Grande; and [2] North Bank Road -- The Spokane, Portland & Seattle Railway by John T. Gaertner.

The Oregon Electric basically ran down the Willamette Valley from Portland to Eugene vis Salem and Albany. The United Railways served the timber areas west and northwest of Portland in Washington, Columbia, and Tillamook counties.

Hope this helps.

Ben13;

If you live in Oregon, go to the Oregon Electric Station in Eugene. Now a cool restaurant with a few passenger cars built into it, it used to be the OE's station in Eugene when the railroad was in operation. Best place to eat in Eugene, in my opinion.

Several of the Oregon Electric Niles-built cars including their sleepers ("Santiam", etc.) ended up on the PGE in British Columbia. Were any of these cars preserved?

Thanks very much for the WCRA link! Was pleased to see that they also have one of the ex-IPS 10-section sleepers preserved.
