Lot of talk about this topic but I still don't know what it is. Clue me in, I can't seem to find anything on the subject, but I know this is the place to find out!. Yeah, I know, rookies!!. Anyway, Choo-Choo-less in Iraq, but lots of Boom-Booms!!.

It's just the process of adding washes of grime, dust & crud colored paints to models to make them appear more like what's actually seen in service.
