Steam Locomotive Roster
Posted by grayfox1119 on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 10:24 AM
I have been hunting all over the internet, but cannot seem to be able to find a steam locomotive roster for the former Boston & Albany RR. I have the Guide to North American Steam Locomotives, but it does not contain a roster for this former RR. It does of course have the NYC roster which later bought the B&A, but that does not tell me which were B&A locos.
Does anyone know where I "can" find one?

Thank you in advance,

The following issues of the Railway and Locomotive Historical Society Bulletin aka Railroad History have B&A locomotive information. #22 pp. 9-39 and #23 pp. 21-22. Bear in mind that B&A locomotives migrated to different parts of the NYC over the years.

Hope this helps.

*** try the NYC historical societies as well. I've found that in researching rosters over the years the majority owner's records will usually contain this type of info. Case in point CNR's records will give the more detailed Blow by blow of Gran Trunk, Central Vermont etc etc. Hope I've helped as opposed to muddied your search. Rob

I have B&A Rosters published in Railroad Magazine in 1936 and in 1950. Also, my copy of the Guide to North American Steam Locomotives (third printing, 1999) does break out all the NYC steam locomotives by subsidiary railroad, so you should be able to extract a B&A roster from that.
