Southern Pacific GS Class Lettering
Posted by traintownofcowee on Thursday, June 16, 2005 1:43 PM
The GS Class locomotives had either SOUTHERN PACIFIC or SOUTHERN PACIFIC LINES. Did the #4449 originally have the Southern Pacific or Southern Pacific Lines on it's tender? Recently it's been Southern Pacific Lines on the Montana trip but all other previous photos iv'e seen have the original Southern Pacific on it.

Any answers???

Prior to 1946 Southern Pacific lines would be correct. Being delivered in 1941, 4449 would have been so lettered with the specification being in silver bronze. Interesting aside, Also in 1946 the practice of sub lettering engines for the Central Pacific was also discontinued.
SP the way it was in S scale
