Looking for information to obtain a track diagram of the service, roundhouse, and backshop if not the entire yard complex at Cheyenne.

this may not be quite what you are looking for, but the book " The History of the Union Pacific Railroad in Cheyenne" By Robert Darwin has track diagram from 1943 and also 1901. Be forewarned, it is a big book,12 x 16 in pages and an expensive one if it is still available. Also has lots of pictures of shops, servicing area, etc. Hope this helps.

There are a couple videos available, one is the "Last of the Giants" part two. All about UP and the Cheyenne shops.

I saw a book at Barnes and Noble that was all about railroad yards. When I get back over there I'll check to see if it has that info and I'll get the name for you.

There was such a book available in the mid 70s with track diagrams of Cheyenne and other locations along Sherman Hill .

Do a Google for a copy of "Sherman Hill", published by Kratville , someone may have a copy for sale.

I checked the book....but no luck. Not one word about Cheyenne. I'll keep looking for more books though.

I have a copy of the book "The history of the UP in cheyenne" So if anyone is model the shops and roundhouse this book is a very valueble tool. I also model the UP in Cheyenne steam 1940 - 1959. So if anyone needs ifo. I would be glady to help.[:)][e-mail][C):-)]

In July 2005, I took a trip through Cheyenne, WY. I was able take well spent time taking pictures, and making sketches of the what was left of the the steam machine shops and roundhouse. The foundation is all still there, along with the remaining 7 stalls of the 48 stall roundhouse. The machine shop only 7 bays of the 14 bay machine shop still remains today. This is where the UP 484 and UP 3985 are serviced and preform All Class overhauls (Home base). The sketches and the pictures that I took should be excellent modeling tools. At this time I'am building a model of the 48 stall roundhouse and machine shop with the proper track alignment and turntalbe. The coaling station and the wash racks foundtions are there but are filled in with dirt, along with some of the old short ties. Also besure to check with the Union Pacific Historical Society or go to ( www.uphs.com


You can just stand there under neath the old 650 ton coal tower and imagine what would be like after all thoughs years looking at the roundhouse machine shop area . It will take you back in time. All there is left are a few of the buildings and 126 ft turntalbe and lots of antique equipment.
