1964 wreck - Santa Fe - Doublea, Arizona

I recently picked up a copy of Issue #126 of Extra 2200 South - re Santa Fe's diesel roster - Part 8 - Santa Fe's passenger F-units. The article states that Santa Fe lost 5 f-units in what must have been a spectacular wreck when the units hit a rock slide at Doublea, Arizona at 81 m.p.h. - reportedly the effect was like hitting a stone wall...

Does anyone have any info about this wreck - which train was involved, exactly how & what happened, etc.?

I have seen black and white photos of this wreck. The train stacked up crosswise in the rock cut at West Doublea. I believe it was a section of the Grand Canyon and suggest you post this question on the Santa Fe list on Listserve. Drop me a private message and I'll let you know how to get on that list.
